DOVER, DE – The Wesley College women's field hockey team fell 2-1 to the Seahawks of St. Mary's College on a beautiful Thursday evening. The Seahawks advance to 10-3 on the season, 3-0 in conference action, while the Wolverines move to 5-9, 0-3 in CAC play.
Olivia Edwards, the current CAC offensive player of the week, proved to be too much for the Wolverines defense as she was able to capitalize twice in the otherwise fairly evenly matched game. The Seahawks narrowly outshot the Wolverines in the first half, 6-4, while the teams went shot for shot in the second half.
Trailing by one goal, the Wolverines mounted an offensive attack in the last 11 seconds of the first half with Brooke Gannon and Jessica Giaccone both taking shots. The Wolverines fought to level the score in the second half, earning seven penalty corners and six shots but the team was not able to get a goal in the match.
Sarah Daniels takes the loss but made six saves for the Wolverines while Christy Bishop was also called upon to make six saves for the Seahawks.
The Wolverines return to the pitch for a 1:00 PM start against Frostburg State University on Sunday, October 19 at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines will take this day to recognize the seniors on the team.
