NEWPORT NEWS, Va. - The Wesley College Field Hockey team battled through their contest on the road on Friday evening, but ultimately fell to Chirstopher Newport University 4-0 in a Capital Athletic Conference contest.
Makenzie McIntyre continued her impressive season, making a career-high 16 saves while allowing just three goals to the Captains in just over 60:00. Sidney Knott allowed one goal and made a pair of stops in the final seven minutes. Morgan Seymour added to her nation-leading defensive saves total with two, bringing her to 18 on the season.
Wesley was held without a shot through the contest, but still kept the score even through the first half in large part to McIntyre's goalkeeping. Both of Seymour's defensive saves came in the final minutes of the first half as the Wolverines preserved the level pegging going into the break.
In the second half, Wesley could no longer withstand the offensive pressure as the Captains rattled off four second half goals. McIntyre made six second half saves but the Captains' barrage was too much to withstand as the home team pulled away.
Wesley moves to 4-12 on the season and will take on Hendrix College in a non-conference contest on Saturday.
