Wolverines Stumble at Mary Washington

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Wesley College Field Hockey team struggled to generate an offense as the University of Mary Washington earn an 8-0 victory over the Wolverines on Saturday afternoon in Virginia.

Wesley cycled through three goalies, with Makenzie McIntyre, Sidney Knott, and Sydney Stump each seeing action on the day. Kasey Fry made four defensive saves for the Wolverines, while Morgan Seymour added to her impressive tally with a defensive saves as well, making 20 on the season.

Wesley conceded six goals in the first half and were unable to muster a shot on goal. McIntyre made eight saves through the first 29 minutes of the game, but was replaced by Knott after the Eagles scored their fourth goal. Knott turned away three shots in 21 minutes, but allowed three goals. Sydney Stump took over for the final 19 minutes of play, making seven saves while allowing just one goal. 

The Wolverines only offensive opportunity came in the 54th minute. Taylor Timmons beat a UMW defender down the right flank and fired a shot on goal from inside the arc, but was turned away by the UMW goalkeeper. 

Wesley falls to 5-14 on the season with a 1-4 mark in conference play. The squad will finish its regular season on Wednesday when they play host to Salisbury University.
