DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Field Hockey team took the field for their final game of the season on Wednesday evening, falling 7-0 to the No. 2 Salisbury University Sea Gulls at Drass Field.
Makenzie McIntyre made seven saves in the first 15 minutes of play before being relieved by Sidney Knott, who finished with four saves. Sydney Stump made five stops and allowed just one goal over 34 minutes in the second half.
The Wesley offense was held to just three shots on the night as the Sea Gulls held possession and controlled tempo for most of the game. Wesley earned three penalty corners on the evening as well, while Salisbury had 10 corner opportunities.
The two teams played evenly through the first 11 minutes, but the Sea Gulls broke through in the 12th minute, spurring a three-goal flurry in a 4:24 time span. The second-ranked Sea Gulls added three more tallies before the halftime whistle to take a 6-0 lead into the break.
In the second half, the Wolverines notched their only shot on goal, when Kelsey Fromal ripped a shot from the right side. The Sea Gulls' goalie was able to parry it away, thwarting the Wolverines' best scoring opportunity. Salisbury added a goal late in the game to extend their lead to 7-0 on the evening.
Wesley finishes their season with a 5-15 mark, including a 1-5 record in the CAC. The squad will graduate Lauren Niezgoda, Allison Perugini, Isabella Lucia, and Morgan Seymour but will look to build around their returning core next season.
