DOVER, Del. - It has been several years since Stephanie Smith Christiano '97 donned the Navy and White on the field, but her Wolverine Pride has never left. The Wesley College Field Hockey alum was honored on Wednesday evening at halftime of the Wolverines' field hockey game for her continued service to and advocacy for the Wesley College Field Hockey program.
Stephanie Smith Christiano received a copy of the locker room nameplate that will be featured in the Wesley College Field Hockey and Softball locker room. The Wolverines have dedicated a locker to her for all of her contributions to the program.
"We felt that for all that Stephanie has done in the past 20 years, whether it be time, advice, helping our student-athletes find the right job, fundraising, or through the advocacy she provides for Wesley College, this was something that we needed to do," said Wesley Field Hockey Head Coach Tracey Short.
Stephanie Smith was a member of Coach Short's first 3 teams. As a Wesley alum Stephanie has been one of the biggest supporters of the team since graduating in 1997 from the college. Over the years, she had the team over for home-made dinners; bought dinner for the team at Olive Garden; helped organize functions for teammates, team members and Coach Short; acted as a sounding board; assisted being behind the scenes in fundraising events; and most importantly has always been proud to be a Wesley Field hockey Alum.
The plate reads, "Stephanie Smith Christiano, Field hockey 1995-1997, Thank you for all you do for us!" and will be hung on one of the lockers in the Wesley College Field Hockey and Softball Locker Room.
"Stephanie goes above and beyond for this program," said Coach Short, "And now her name will be seen by all of the field hockey and softball players as well as recruits. It's a small token of our appreciation."
