Field Hockey drops heartbreaker to St. Mary’s in overtime

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – The Wesley College field hockey team dropped a close 3-2 overtime decision to the St. Mary's (Md.) Seahawks in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action on Sunday.

The Wolverines got on the board twice in the first half. Rebecca Dvorak was at the penalty stroke spot in the 16th minute and found Kasey Fry, who finished off the left the post for the opening goal of the contest.

Jessica Behornar put the Wolverines' second goal on the board in the 25th minute when she shot it near post past the Seahawk goalkeeper.

The Seahawks cut the Wolverine lead to one right before the halftime when Sophie Michel finished a penalty corner from Mollie Belson.

Courtney Mellon tied the game with three and half minutes left in regulation when she put away a loose ball inside the arc.

The Wolverines had their chances early on in the overtime session when Fry put two shots on target but Alyssa Thompson saved both of Fry's shots.

The Seahawks netted the game-winning goal late in the second overtime period when Belson deflected a Meghan Ronan shot into the goal.

Emily Wagner made two defensive saves for the Wolverines while Sidney Knott made six saves in goal for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines will step out of the CAC schedule when they take on the Neumann Knights on the road on Thursday. Action is scheduled to begin at 4 p.m.
