Atlantic East Conference Playoff Preview: Field Hockey

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College field hockey team will look to bring home the first ever Atlantic East Conference Championship,

"We started off strong to start the year, took our bumps in the middle of the year, but started to hit our stride as we entered conference play and ended the regular season," said head coach Tracey Short. "The team is playing better than we have and have a chance to make a run at the championship."

Powered by two consecutive wins in Atlantic East play, the Wolverines earned the second seed and a first-round bye in the conference tournament with a regular season record of 7-10 and 3-2 in the Atlantic East. Wesley will take on the third-seeded Marywood Pacers in the semifinals.

The Wesley offense was led all season by the performance of Kaila Hindt. At the end of the regular season, Hindt led the Atlantic East in points (31) and goals (13) and ranked fourth in assists (5).

Kasey Fry and Kristen Fuhr each netted three goals while Jessica Behornar, Rebecca Dvorak and Alexiss Hulse all tallied a pair of goals in the regular season.

Defensively, goalkeeping was a group effort this season as Lauren Berry, Sidney Knott and Bridget Wood all spent time in net combining for 119 saves with a goals-against average of 1.69. The keepers were assisted with the efforts of the back line led by Fry, Behornar, Brittany Bishop Natalie Quigley and Alexis Howerin. All five combined for 15 defensive saves, Quigley's six defensive stops placed her third in the Atlantic East while Fry's five defensive saves placed her in fourth in the conference.

Wesley will begin their pursuit of history on Wednesday, Oct. 31 when they take on Marywood at 4 p.m. at Drass Field.
