Geyer Named Academic All-District
DOVER, Del. - Andrew Geyer of the Wesley College golf team was voted to the 2008 CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District II At-Large First Team, as voted by members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
In earning a spot on the first team, he is now eligible for the CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-America Team.
Geyer, a junior from Milford, Delaware, has a 3.92 grade point average as a political science major. He has the President's List at Wesley with a perfect 4.0 grade point average in all but one semester at Wesley, when he still qualified for the Dean's List.
On the golf course, Geyer was named to the All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) First Team after finishing fifth at the CAC Championships and helping lead Wesley to the team championship. He also tied for 55th at the NCAA Championships as the Wolverines finished seventh as a team. He also finished fourth at the Mid-Atlantice Regional Invitational.
His 77.5 scoring average was third on the team and ranked among the conference leaders.
Making Geyer's selection even more impressive is that it comes in the at-large program, which golf falls under. While sport specific teams are chosen in 12 sports (football, women's volleyball, men's soccer, women's soccer, men's basketball, women's basketball, baseball, softball, men's track & field/cross country, women's track & field/cross country, and football), the at-large program involves 24 sports (12 men's and 12 women's).
This means in addition to competing against fellow men's golfers for a spot on the men's at-large team, he was also up against competitors from 11 other sports, including men's fencing, men's gymnastics, men's ice hockey, men's lacrosse, men's rifle, men's skiing, men's swimming, men's tennis, men's volleyball, men's water polo and men's wrestling.
The sports of women's bowling, women's crew, women's fencing, women's field hockey, women's golf, women's gymnastics, women's ice hockey, women's lacrosse, women's rifle, women's skiing, women's swimming, women's tennis, and women's water polo comprise the women's at-large team.
