Osberg, Zimmerer Lead Wesley
HERSHEY, Pa. - Wesley College's Chris Osberg (Amherst, Va./Amherst) and Rob Zimmerer (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) are tied for 15th after the first round of the Mid-Atlantic Region Invitational hosted by Rochester at the Hershey Country Club.
The two players shot matching 78s on the first day on the par 71, 6,830 yard course. Both players improved their rounds on the back nine. Osberg shot 43 on the front, but improved to a 35 on the back. Zimmerer shaved off four strokes on the back nine, shooting a 37 compared to a 41 on the front.
The duo powered the Wolverines to a first day 326, tied for 11th with Elmira and Penn State-Altoona.
Elmira's Brandon Christo leads the 75-player tournament with a 73, a one-shot lead over a trio of student-athletes.
Washington & Jefferson has the lead in the team standings with a 304.
In addition to Osberg and Zimmerer, Jeff Owsik (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) is tied for 47th with an 83. Kevin Reidinger (Ogdensburg, N.J./Wallkill Valley) shot an 87 to tie for 67th and Jason Schatz (Springfield, Pa./Springfield) is 74th with a 93.
One other Capital Athletic Conference school is in action in the tournament. York (Pa.) is in 15th after shooting a team 332.
