Wesley, Owsik Second at CACs
HAMPSTEAD, Md. - Wesley College's Jeff Owsik (Bryn Mawr, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) shot a two-day 153 to tie for second and lead the Wolverines to a second place finish at the Capital Athletic Conference Championships at Piney Branch Golf Club.
With his tie for second place, he earns a spot on the All-CAC first team. Joining Owsik on the first team is teammate Chris Osberg (Amherst, Va./Amherst), the 2008 CAC Champion, who finished fourth with a 36-hole 154.
Rob Zimmerer (Franklin, N.J./Wallkill Valley) gave the Wolverines three players on the All-CAC team, qualifying for the second team with a tie for sixth three shots behind Osberg.
Wesley's second place finish ends the school's run of 11 consecutive conference championship, the first 10 of which came as members of the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference before joining hte CAC last year and winning the inaugural championship last season.
York (Pa.) was the team that ended the Wolverines run, shooting a two-day 614 to defeat Wesley by 16 strokes. The Wolverines had entered the final round tied with Marymount, but Wesley improved its score by six strokes to 312, while the Saints turned in a 333.
In addition to winning the team title, the Spartans also featured the individual champion and rookie of the year in Adam Dupler. Dupler shot a 149 to win by four strokes over Owsik and Stevenson's Cliff Mangle. York's Shane Bernard rounded out the All-CAC first team with a fifth place finish of 155.
