Pestun Stong in Debut
REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Wesley College freshman Cody Pestun (Damascus, Md./Damascus) turned in a strong collegiate debut, shooting matching 73s on the par 71, 6480-yard Kings Creek in the Rehoboth Beach Invitational hosted by Penn.
Pestun's 146 tied him for 10th overall in a field that had six NCAA Division I teams among the eight team field. It also made the freshman the top Division III finisher in the field.
Robert Ehrhardt (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) joined him in the top 20 with rounds of 77 and 73 to finish at 150 in a tie for 20th.
Clayton Bunting (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) shaved three strokes off his opening round 85 to finish at 167 in 49th place in the 56-player field.
DJ Keckler (Fallston, Md./Fallston) and Corey Jefferson (Wilmington, Del./Archmere) of the Wolverines' baseball team made their collegiate golf debuts, as did former soccer player Jon Petitte (Palmyra, N.J./Palmyra). Jefferson claimed 53rd with a 36-hole total of 196. Keckler was 10 strokes behind him in 55th, four shots ahead of Petitte.
Navy claimed the team championship with a team total of 572, 13 shots ahead of Mount St. Mary's. Midshipman Tim Shield finished in a three way tie for first at 139 with Rob Robertson of Lafayette and Penn's Marco Fortades.
The Wolverines continue the fall season at the Ted Keller Memorial hosted by Randolph-Macon on October 2.
