GREENSBORO, N.C. - Wesley College shaved 27 strokes off its first round as all four Wolverines improved their scores in the final round of the O'Briant Memorial hosted by Guilford.
Clayton Bunting (Georgetown, Del./Sussex Tech) was the only Wolverine in the top 20 at the par 70, 7,002-yard course at The Cardinal Golf & Country Club. He improved to a 75 in the second round to finish at 153 after carding a 78 in the opening round of the tournament.
Robert Ehrhardt (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) improved by nine strokes, shooting a 76 in the final round and finishing at 161 in a tie for 45th place. Cody Pestun (Damascus, Md./Damascus) was one stroke back after shooting a 77 to give him a 162 total, good for a 49th place tie. Erik Shellenhamer (Lebanon, Pa./Lebanon) shot an 88 to finish with a 183 over the 36-hole tournament.
The hosts from Guilford took the team title with the top two finishers in the tournament leading the way. Noah Ratner's 141 gave him a one stroke win over teammate Drew Thompson.
In addition to 78 Division III golfers, 11 student-athletes from Division I schools Duke, Wake Forest and Liberty rounded out the 89 player field.
The tournament concludes the Wesley fall season.
