Men’s Hoops Can’t Overcome York
DOVER, Del. - Despite 16 points apiece by JJ Bryant (Dover, Del./Dover), Chris Douglas (Landover, Md./Jericho Prep. Academy) and Eric Selby (Wilmington, Del./Howard), Wesley College's men's basketball team fell to York College (Pa.), 75-67, Wednesday night at its Wentworth Gymnasium. The Wolverines fall to 1-4 overall and 0-1 in the Capital Athletic Conference while the Spartans move to 4-2 on the season and 1-0 in league play.
Bryant finished 6-of-15 from the field and led the team with six rebounds and Selby made a team-high three treys on 6-of-10 shooting overall.
Wesley got out in front early scoring the game's first four points on layups by David Langan (Sayreville, N.J./Sayreville War Memorial) and Bryant but YCP went on an 11-3 run over the next three minutes to force a Wolverine timeout. Bryant scored on a floater just after the break cutting the lead to 11-9 with 13:31 left to play in the first but the Spartans went on another long run to take a 25-14 lead with just under ten minutes in the opening frame.
The Wolverines would cut the lead to two at 31-29 with 4:05 in the first after back-to-back trifectas by Nick Guidry (New Orleans, La./Holy Cross) and Douglas but went into the half down six at 39-33.
YCP scored the first 10 points in the second half to take a 49-33 advantage but Selby went off to score eight points in the next four minutes to cut the deficit to 51-49.
Despite the hard-fought effort, Wesley could not get over the hump as the Spartans scored 10 unanswered points to put the game out of reach.
Wesley returns to action Saturday, December 3, when it hosts Hood College in a CAC contest at 4 pm.
