DIII News Report (Jan. 30)
DOVER, Del. – Wesley College head men's basketball coach Jerry Kobasa has been named the DIII News/Schelde North America Coach of the Month for January, it was announced by SmallCollegeHoops.com on Wednesday morning. Kobasa led the Wolverines to a perfect 6-0 mark as of January 30 and Wesley is riding an 11-game win streak.
The Wolverines, who are now nationally-ranked for the first time in program history, won its 11-straight game with a 68-45 victory at Capital Athletic Conference rival Marymount (Va.) on Saturday, January 26. Wesley (16-4, 6-1 CAC) has now matched its longest win streak in school-history and has won 13 of its last 14 games.
In his seven seasons at Wesley College, Kobasa has rebuilt the program at his alma mater. A long-time respected fixture in Delaware sports, Kobasa took a team that had just two winning seasons in 17 years before his arrival and taken them to the NCA Tournament twice in the last five season.
The 24th-ranked Wolverines are back in action tonight when they travel to No. 14 St. Mary's (Md.) for an 8 pm CAC tipoff.
