Men’s Hoops Jumps into D3hoops.com Poll at 17
DOVER, Del. – After entering last week as the top vote-getter outside the top 25 and a pair of victories over No. 8 Hampden Sydney and CAC rival York (Pa.), Wesley College's men's basketball team entered the D3hoops.com Poll at No. 17, the Wolverines highest national ranking in program history. This is just the third time that Wesley has been nationally ranked since becoming a Division III program in the 1986-87 season.
The Wolverines earned a National ranking for the first time ever in Week 9 of last year at No. 24 after winning a program-record 11 straight games and returned to the Top 25 two weeks later. Wesley earned an at-large bid to the NCAA Tournament in 2012-13 and finished the season with its first-ever 20 win season.
Seniors David Langan and James Livingston have carried the Navy & White through the opening weeks of the season with each earning CAC Player of the Week honors. Langan, a six-foot-eight center from Sayreville, N.J., is currently averaging a double-double with 19.8 points and 11.4 rebounds while making 81.2% of his shots from the floor, along with 2.6 steals a game. A wing player from Trenton, N.J., Livingston has scored over 20 points the last two games and is averaging 16.6 points with nearly four rebounds and four assists while sinking over 58% of his shots from three-point range.
Also averaging in double figures for Wesley is junior Quincy Pettiford at 13.4 points and with 6.6 rebounds and nearly two assists. Senior point guard Eric Selby is also in the midst of his best season ever, tallying 7.4 points and 5.4 assists a game. Sophomores AJ Tilghman and Anthony Bowers have combined for over 11 points off the bench and offer a change of pace at the point.
Head Coach Jerry Kobasa, who is in his ninth season at the helm of the program, was recently named the DIII News Coach of the Month for November and is the winningest coach in team history at 133-91 (.594)
The Wolverines (5-0) are off to its best start as a Division III program with wins in its first time games to open the season. Wesley returns to action on December 4 when it travels to Marymount (Va.) in an 8 pm Capital Athletic Conference tipoff.
