DOVER, Del. - After dropping their conference opener the Wesley College Men's Basketball team has rolled to two straight Capital Athletic Conference wins and will seek another when they travel to York College on Wednesday, December 14 to face the Spartans.
In both of the Wolverines' conference victories the team has trailed at half, falling behind to Southern Virginia by nine at halftime before earning a 70-66 win and trailing by four at the break before exploding for an 80-59 win over Frostburg State on Sunday. The team would like to have a better first half and perhaps take a lead into the break against York, but would take a win either way.
Last time out, Rasahn Brinkley recorded 19 points and 15 rebounds to lead the Wolverines to a win over Frostburg, earning himself CAC Player of the Week honors. Brinkley is one of four Wolverines averaging double-digit scoring at 10.3 points per game. JW Lawson leads the team with 17.9 points per game while Evan Anderson (14.0) and Brian Cameron (10.2) have been pouring it in as well.
York enters Wednesday night's contest with a 5-2 mark on the season and a 2-1 standing in the CAC. The Spartans had a three-game win streak snapped by No. 6 Christopher Newport University as the Captains throttled York 85-59.
Matt Scamuffo, Dalton Myers, and Blayde Reich are all averaging double-digit points for the Spartans who split last year's season series with the Wolverines. Brad Wesner has been the offense's only outside shooting threat. The guard is the only member of the team with more than five attempts shooting better than 40.0% from behind the arc.
The Wolverines' best bet at attacking the Spartans will be in the paint where they lack depth. Only three of York's forwards have averaged more than 10.0 minutes per game, while Wesley has a glut of options inside the paint with Brinkley, Jordan Johnson, and Paul Clemons all seeing significant time and freshmen Tolu Babalola, Craig Sirmons, and Derick Charles stepping into larger roles as the season progresses.
The Wolverines and Spartans will face off on Wednesday, December 14 in York and are scheduled for an 8:00 p.m. tip. Live coverage of the game including live stats, streaming video, and audio broadcast will be provided by the York College Sports Information office.
