VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Wesley College Men's Basketball team could not withstand the uptempo pace of the Virginia Wesleyan College squad, falling 100-67 on Saturday afternoon in Virginia Beach.
Evan Anderson netted 14 points while JW Lawson added 10. Brian Cameron notched his fourth straight double-digit scoring game with 13 points and added six rebounds, two assists and two steals. Tyrone Craven recorded a team-high five assists as well.
16 different players saw action for the Marlins, as they shot over 50% from the floor for the game. Wesley shot a meager 36.2% from the field and made just three of their 16 attempts from behind the arc. The Wolverines went 22-for-25 from the free throw line though, improving on their season average.
The Marlins opened the game on a 10-2 run and never looked back. Wesley's only lead of the game came on the contest's first bucket, scored by JW Lawson to give Wesley a 2-0 lead. From there, the Marlins took control. Paul Clemons did his best to keep the Navy and White in contention, scoring nine points and pulling four rebounds in the first half, but VWC took a 52-28 lead into the halftime locker room.
In the second half, it was more of the same for the Wolverines as the team just couldn't find their shooting stroke. Evan Anderson scored 10 points in the second half and Brian Cameron added eight but the Wolverines could not bring the game close enough to contest the Marlins. Craig Sirmons and Brian Cameron each finished off highlight dunks in the final two minutes but it went for naught as VWC earned the victory.
Wesley sees their three-game winning streak snapped as they move to 4-5 on the season. The squad will travel to the West Coast to take on Lewis and Clark on Tuesday, December 20 and George Fox University on December 21.
