DOVER, Del. – Head coach Dean Burrows announced on Tuesday that the Wesley College men's basketball team will take on the University of Delaware Blue Hens in a regular season game at the Bob Carpenter Center in Newark, Del.
The Wolverines and the Blue Hens will square off on Friday, Nov. 17. Game time, media and ticket information will be announced at a later time and will be posted on the Wesley Athletics website, www.gowesleyathletics.com and on the various Wesley Athletics social media platforms. This contest will mark the first time that the two schools have met on the hardwood.
"I can't thank Coach (Martin) Ingelsby and his staff enough for this opportunity for our program," Coach Burrows stated. "We are privileged and honored to be able to compete against our state's flagship institution. For every player who grows up in our state, the 'Dream' is the same: to be able to one day play at 'The Bob' and for us as coaches, it is no different. Personally speaking, this opportunity means a lot to me as the University of Delaware is my alma mater. We are very much looking forward to preparing for, competing and showcasing the talent level that we have in Division III basketball that often gets overlooked. I like to think of this opportunity as a celebration of basketball in our state."
The 2016-17 season marked the 10th consecutive season that Wesley made an appearance in the Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) Championship Tournament. With only one graduating senior on last year's team, Wesley returns nine players in 2017-18, including all five starters led by CAC Rookie of the Year Brian Cameron and All-CAC Second Teamer JW Lawson.
Under first-year head coach Martin Ingelsby, Delaware qualified as the ninth seed in the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament in 2016-17 and finished the year with 13-20 record. Delaware returns eight from a season ago, including two of their top scorers.
Wesley opens the 2017-18 regular season on the road when they take on the Stockton Ospreys on Wednesday, Nov. 15 at 7 p.m.
