DOVER, Del. - Wesley College dropped its first ever Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) postseason game, falling in the conference quarterfinals 12-9 to fifth-seeded York (Pa.).
Brad Smith scored three times for the fourth-seeded Wesley (8-6).
The Wolverines trailed just 5-4 at the half, but the Spartans (9-6) scored the first three goals of the third quarter in just 3:07 of game time to take an 8-4 lead.
A goal by York's Nick Carlson put Wesley in an 11-6 hole with 14:05 to play. The Wolverines closed the game with a 3-1 run, including two goals by Smith, but could get no closer than three goals the rest of the way.
Wesley outshot the Spartans 37-23 in the game and committed four less turnovers.
Brett Jolly and Steven Moran combined to win 15-of-25 faceoffs in the game for the Wolverines.
Kirk Waldie had two assists, four ground balls and four caused turnovers.
Jim McCleaft stopped 10 shots in goal.
In addition to Josh Gamble's team leading three goals, the Spartans also received two apiece from Steve Roy and Chris Norman.
Steve Mersinger had seven ground balls, while Matt Keeler made 15 saves in goal.
