BALTIMORE, Md. - Wesley College's Kirk Waldie was named an Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-American Honorable Mention and was joined on the Inside Lacrosse Preseason All-CAC Team by teammate Jim McCleaft.
The two seniors were both named to the 2008 All-Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) first team as voted by the CAC coaches.
Waldie, a defender from Folsom, Pennsylvania, led the CAC in ground balls per game (6.86), ranking 19th in NCAA Division III. His 42 caused turnovers paced the conference, as well. Waldie chipped in on the offense end too. He scored a pair of goals and dished out seven assists for nine points.
A native of Media, Pennsylvania, McCleaft serves as Wesley's starting goalkeeper. His goals against average of 8.27 was the best in the CAC among goalkeepers reaching the NCAA minimum in playing time. McCleaft also ranked second in the CAC and 20th in Division III in save percentage at .625. He also ranked third in the CAC in saves per game with 12.71.
Both players have been named to the postseason all-conference teams in each of their first seasons, beginning with the Pennsylvania Athletic Conference in 2006 and 2007 and the Capital Athletic Conference in 2008.
The duo will look to lead Wesley in the 2009 season, which begins with a road conference contest against defending national champion Salisbury on February 25.
