SALISBURY, Md. - Wesley College took a 2-1 lead midway through the first quarter, but No. 1 Salisbury outscored the Wolverines 9-1 over the remainder of the first half and went on to win 18-5.
Joe Trezza (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) and Rob King (Howell, N.J./Howell) scored in the opening 6:51, but a goal by Sam Bradman with 7:28 left in the period was the first of four unanswered goals by the Sea Gulls (3-0, 1-0 CAC) to end the period.
Wesley (0-1, 0-1 CAC) cut it to 5-3 when Brad Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) picked up his second assist of the game on a man up goal by Justin D'Alonzo (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) to open the second quarter. The Wolverines did not score again in the period as five different Salisbury players scored for a 10-3 halftime score.
Matt Cannone scored for Salisbury with a man down to start the scoring in the second half with 12:03 left in the third period. Brad Bivins (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) got Wesley's only goal of the quarter, but Wesley still trailed 13-4 with 4:32 to go in the quarter.
After a pair of Kylor Berkman scores stretched it to 18-4 in the fourth quarter, Justin Thompson (Pasadena, Md./North East) benefited from Smith's third assist of the day for the final tally of the afternoon to close the scoring with 2:49 to play.
Jim McCleaft (Media, Pa./Sun Valley) made 13 saves in goal for the Wolverines and added four ground balls and two caused turnovers. Shayne Lynch (Frederick, Md./Gov. Thomas Johnson) had a team-high five ground balls.
Berkman and Cannone scored five goals apiece in the win. Berkman added three assists for eight points.
Ryan Finch had 19 ground balls. Johnny Rodriguez made eight saves.
Wesley will look to get into the win column on Saturday, February 28 when Marymount (Va.) visits Dr. Scott D. Miller Stadium for the Wolverines first home game under new Head Coach Bill Gorrow.
