DOVER, Del. - Wesley College used a 6-1 run in the second period to pull away for a 16-5 win over visiting Marywood University.
The Wolverines (6-2) led just 2-0 after the first period, but Joe Trezza (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) doubled the lead with back-to-back scores within 1:34 of each to put Wesley up 4-0 with 10:10 left in the half. After two more Wesley goals, the Pacers (2-4) got a score from Dustin Sturdevant that cut it to 6-1 with 4:32 remaining. Less than a minute later, the Wolverines scored twice in 14 seconds, with Brad Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) and Justin D'Alonzo (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) each finding the back of the net for an 8-1 halftime lead.
Marywood managed to keep the deficit at seven throughout much of the third quarter, but D'Alonzo took an assist from Smith with just 15 seconds left in the period to start a run of five straight goals for Wesley to put the game out of reach.
D'Alonzo led Wesley with four goals. Nick Pisacano (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) added two goals and three assists, while Smith's goal and four assists matched his five points.
Jim McCleaft (Media, Pa./Sun Valley) needed just four saves in net before giving way to both Sean Matthews (Baltimore, Pa./Pennsbury) and Corey Bousquet (Ridge, N.Y./Longwood) for the final six minutes.
Sturdevant scored three goals for the Pacers, while Nick Parks added a score and two assists.
Wesley hits the road for a road match in Capital Athletic Conference (CAC) action on March 25 at 4:00 PM.
