CAPE COD, Mass. - The Wesley College men's lacrosse team earned a bid to the 2009 ECAC Metro/South Championships and will travel to Drew for a semifinal contest on Friday, May 8 at 7:00 PM.
The Wolverines are seeded second, but wil travel to the third seeded Rangers in the first round. With less than the required number of eligible teams declaring in the South Region, the South was combined with the Metro Region. According to ECAC rules, if a team plays 'out of region' in a championship tournament, the can not host contests regardless of seeding.
Stevens Institute of Technology garnered the No. 1 seed in the tournament and will host the No. 4 seed, Kean. That game will also take place on Friday, May 8 at 7:00 PM and will be played at Stevens.
The two semifinal winners will face off on Sunday, May 10 for the Metro/South Championship.
Wesley men's lacrosse is no stranger to the ECAC Championships, winning titles in 1996, 1997 and 2000. The Wolverines' 11 wins this season are the most since that 2000 team, which won 12 games.
