WASHINGTON, D.C. - Wesley College's Dan and Jack Skeels (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) combined for five goals, but the Wolverines scored just twice in the second half as Catholic picked up an 11-7 non-conference win.
Brad Smith (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) and Dan Skeels scored in the first period for Wesley (0-2), but four different Cardinals (1-0) found the back of the net as the Wolverines trailed 4-2 entering the second quarter. Goals by Both Skeels and Nick Pisacano (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) helped trim the deficit to just one goal, 6-5, at the half.
But Wesley's offense went cold in the second half, as Catholic outscored the Wolverines 5-2 over the final 30 minutes to pick up the win.
Dan Skeels finished with three goals, one more than his younger brother Jack. Smith finished with a goal and two assists.
Chris Fucillo led all players with four goals for Catholic. Mike Groh added three.
Michael McQuarrie (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) led Wesley with seven ground balls and won eight faceoffs.
Tom Scotto had eight ground balls for the Cardinals and won a dozen faceoffs.
Marcus Giarusso (Camillus, N.Y./Marcellus) picked up the start in goal and made 11 saves for the Wolverines. Sean McKenna stopped seven shots for Catholic.
Wesley will look for its first win of 2010 when the Wolverines head to Greensboro for a contest on March 6.
