ARLINGTON, Va. - Wesley College scored the game's final three goals to break a tie game and claim a 13-10 win at Marymount (Va.) in Capital Athletic Conference action.
The Saints (3-8, 0-3 CAC) tied the game on a goal by Chris Wascak with 10:21 left in the game, but the Wolverines (2-7, 1-2 CAC) got a goal from Brad Bivins (Dover, Del./Caesar Rodney) less than a minute later to take the lead for good. Wesley added goals by Dan Skeels (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) and Jack Skeels (Roseland, N.J./West Essex) down the stretch to put the game out of reach, while holding Marymount off the scoreboard for the remainder of the contests.
The Wolverines fell behind early, 4-1, after back to back goals by the Saints' Drew Phillips to end the first period. Wesley still trailed 6-2 before a goal by Rob King (Howell, N.J./Howell) with just 1:12 left in the second made it a three-goal game at the half.
Wesley came out firing in the third quarter and took an 8-7 lead with just under four minutes left in the period on a Bivins tally. Marymount got a score by Phillips before the end of the quarter, however, to send the teams into the final period locked at 8-8.
Another goal by Bivins gave Wesley a 9-8 advantage with 13:50 to play, but Fran Turella tied it up for the Saints 43 seconds later. After Jack Skeels scored to reclaim the lead again for the Wolverines, Wascak knotted the game at 10-10 before Bivins game-winner.
Sean Mathews (Baltimore, Pa./Pennsbury) got his second start of the season in goal and made 17 saves.
Jack Skeels finished with four goals and two assists for six points and also scooped four ground balls. Bivins added three goals, while Nick Pisacano (Kings Park, N.Y./Kings Park) netted two goals and an assist. Dan Skeels scored twice in the win.
Michael McQuarrie (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) won 11-of-19 face offs and had nine ground balls.
Phillips scored four times for the Saints and Wascak chipped in with three goals and an assist.
Ross Fernandez made 20 saves for Marymount.
Joe Rafferty won 14-of-24 face offs and had nine ground balls.
Wesley returns home to face York (Pa.) on April 7 at 7:00 PM.
