DOVER, Del. - Both teams had to battle the elements as well as each other, but in the end it was St. Mary's (Md.) emerging with a 10-6 win over Wesley College.
The Seahawks (4-8, 3-4 CAC) took a 3-1 lead on a goal by Dennis Rosson with 1:12 left in the first quarter. Thirty seconds later, the game went into a weather delay due to lightning in the area.
When play resumed over an hour later, neither team scored until St. Mary's got a pair of goals in the final 3:05 of the first half to take a 5-1 lead through two quarters of play.
The Seahawks had stretched the lead to 6-1 before a goal by Justin D'Alonzo (Prospect Park, Pa./Interboro) cut the deficit back to four.
Three straight goals by St. Mary's extended the lead to seven before the Wolverines closed things with a 4-1 run.
Scott Brozey (Milton, Del./Cape Henlopen) had two goals and an assist to lead Wesley, while D'Alonzo scored twice. Defender Keven Lion (Westampton, N.J./Rancocas Valley) got his first goal of the season and added four ground balls.
Rosson had a game-high three goals, while Patrick Mull assisted on four of the Seahawks 10 goals.
