Men’s Lacrosse Beats Hood In OT
FREDERICK, Md. - Scott Brozey scored a career-high four goals, including the game-winner in overtime to lead Wesley College's men's lacrosse team to a 7-6 overtime victory over Capital Athletic Conference rival Hood College on Saturday afternoon. The Wolverines are now 1-4 on the season and 1-0 in the CAC while the Blazers fall to 2-7 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Brozey's man-up goal in the extra session came just one minute and 13 seconds in as he scored on a man-up opportunity off a pass from Eric Crumbock.
In a defensive battle, Brozey had goals in each of the first three periods. His first came with just five seconds left in the first which gave the Wolverines a 3-2 lead after 15 minutes of play.
After the Blazers scored to open the second, Brozey put Wesley back on top and Joe Donato followed up seconds later, giving the Navy & White a 5-3 advantage with 8:34 left in the half.
Hood's Trey Freeman would score just after Donato to cut the lead in half, and again to open the third, tying the score at five with 12:28 remaining. The Blazers regained the lead nearly two minutes later but Brozey notched the hat trick with 8:54 left in the third tie the game at 6.
Both teams went scoreless in the fourth, leading to the extra session.
The Wolverines outshot the Blazers, 30-26 for the day and also got goals by Patrick Lipari and Tim Dougherty. Dougherty was also credited with an assist.
Defensively, Wesley was anchored by Matt Ryan who made 12 saves in 61 minutes and 13 seconds of play. The play of Dan Tryon and Ryan Morris was equally important as they combined for nine ground balls on the afternoon.
Wesley returns to the pitch on Wednesday, March 21, when it travels to CAC foe Mary Washington for a 3:30 pm faceoff.
