Wesley's men's lacrosse team rallied for their second win of the season over Frostburg State earlier this evening.
They started the game strong with Michael McQuarrie winning the first faceoff and driving in for a goal just thirty seconds into the game, setting a clear tempo for the Wolverines. After Dan Tryon's second penalty of the game, Frostburg was able to capitalize on their power play and put one by keeper Matt Ryan to tie the game. With a change in momentum, Frostburg was able to put another one in less than a minute later. Period one ended with the Wolverines trailing 2-1.
The next two periods were dominated by Wesley. Scott Brozey was next to scored a goal, tying the game up at two. With a minute and a half remaining, Wesley went on the power play, and Brozey was able to capitalize on the extra man advantage, scoring his second goal of the evening. Ryan made four saves to keep the score 3-2, with the Wolverines in the lead at the half.
The start of the second half, Wesley pushed hard, with McQuarrie winning the faceoff and Tryon pushing for the groundball. Patrick Lipari scored a goal less than thirty seconds in; Drew Hammer was credited with the assist. With eight minutes remaining, the Wolverines got caught offsides, give Frostburg an extra man opportunity, where they were able to score cut the lead to one goal. Two minutes later, Frostburg tied it up at four. Wesley answered back with just under four minutes to go with a goal by Joe Donato, assisted by Dougherty. Just over a minute later, the Wolverines put another goal on the board thanks to Nathan Gorski. Wesley outshot Frostburg 12-6 in the third, and had the momentum going into the fourth, with a lead of 6-4.
The Wolverines started strong again, with a close call by Brozey's shot off the post. After Hammer fired off a few shots, the Wolverines were able to advance their lead to 7-4. Caught in another man-down situation, Frostburg got one by Ryan with five minutes remaining. Wesley answered back fast with Dougherty's second goal of the evening; Dion Harris was credited with the assist. Frostburg was able to score once more, with a win off the faceoff, but it wasn't enough to subdue the Wolverines. Matt Ryan had 12 saves in the game.
The Wolverines advance to 2-7, with a record of 2-3 in the conference. The Wolverines faceoff next against DeSales at home on April 4th at 4:00pm.
