FERRUM, Va. – After a low scoring first half that was tied at 2, Ferrum College went on to defeat the Wesley College men's lacrosse team, 9-7 on Sunday afternoon at W.B. Adams Field.  The Wolverines fall to 2-1 on the year while the Panthers improve to 4-2.

Dan Tryon scored on an unassisted goal in the first and Lane Kocovsky found Jathan Mahaffey in the second to round out the scoring for Wesley in the first 30 minutes.

Ferrum outscored Wesley, 5-1 in the third quarter, behind three goals by Tyler Poage.  Kocovsky found the back with 5:13 remaining in the third, making the score 4-3 in favor of the Panthers, who led, 7-3 after three periods.

Four different Wolverines, Drew Hammer, Joe Donato, James Moss and Mike Brandenburg, tallied unassisted goals in the fourth as Wesley outscored Ferrum, 4-2 in the quarter.  Unfortunately, the Wolverines did not have enough left in the tank to tie the score.

Matt Ryan made 16 saves in net for the Wolverines and also led the team with eight ground balls.  Sam Seibert and Justin Sieburt caused a pair of turnovers as well.

Damian Pulos made 18 saves for the Panthers.

The Wolverines host the United States Merchant Marine Academy on Wednesday, March 6, at 4:30 pm.
