Men’s Lacrosse Falls To #19 Mary Washington

DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College men's lacrosse team dropped a Capital Athletic Conference matchup to No. 19 Mary Washington, 19-6, on Saturday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium.  The Wolverines fall to 3-5 overall and 0-2 in the CAC while the Eagles improve to 7-2 on the year and 1-0 in league play.

Patrick Lipari gave Wesley an early, 1-0 lead with 12:30 remaining in the first period off an assist from Mike Brandenburg but the Eagles scored eight straight times to close out the first period.  Wesley outscored UMW, 4-2 in the second quarter thanks to a pair of goals by Dan Tryon but went into halftime trailing, 10-5.

Mary Washington outscored Wesley, 7-0 in the third, and a Drew Hammer goal was sandwiched between a pair of Eagles scores in the fourth.

Tryon and Lane Kocovsky both had a pair of points for Wesley while Michael McQuarrie tallied a game-high eight ground balls after winning 17-of-20 faceoffs. 

Defensively, Kyle Funk caused three turnovers and Josh Ladd was credited with two while goalkeeper Matt Ryan made seven saves in 45 minutes of action.  Sam Kennedy saw his first action of the year and made four stops in the final period.

Luke Dick (2g, 3a) and Billy Kelly (3g, 2a) led UMW with five points each while Zack Del Grosso made 16 saves before giving way to Kyle Davitt with 11:36 left in regulation.

Wesley returns to action on Saturday, April 6, when it hosts St. Mary's in a 1 pm faceoff.
