BETHANY, W.V. – In its final tuneup before the CAC Tournament, the Wesley College men's lacrosse team easily defeated Bethany College, 25-2, on Sunday afternoon at Bison Stadium. The Wolverines (6-8) will travel to St. Mary's for the First Round on April 24, at 4 pm, while the Bison fall to 4-10.
Lane Kocovsky and Jathan Mahaffey scored two goals apiece as Wesley scored the game's first eight goals. Bethany finally got on the board with 1:40 left in the first quarter, but Mike Rakos found the back of the net just ten seconds later while Kocovsky notched the hat trick with 43 seconds left in the period.
Wesley outscored the Bison, 4-1, in the second period, with Joe Donato getting his hat trick with a pair of scores in the process. At the half, the Wolverines led, 14-2, and they blanked Bethany, 11-0 in the second half.
Ten different players scored for Wesley, led by five goals and two assists from Kocovsky, four each from Donato and James Moss, and three from Sam Seibert. Mahaffey, Michael McQuarrie and Jason Berry also added a pair of goals while Mahaffey added three assists for a career-high five points.
McQuarrie also dominated the faceoffs, winning 14-of-15, while Jack O'Neil won 7-of-11. Berry recorded a team-high seven ground balls as Sam Kennedy stopped five Bison shots.
