Men’s Lacrosse Falls in CAC 1st Round

ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. – Wesley College's men's lacrosse team's season came to an end with a 22-5 loss to St. Mary's in the first round of the Capital Athletic Conference Tournament on Wednesday afternoon at Seahawk Stadium.  The Wolverines finish the season with a 6-9 record while the Seahawks (10-6) advance to the second round to face York (Pa.).

Falling behind by two to start the game, Wesley cut the lead in half on an unassisted goal by James Moss with 11:20 left in the first period. The Seahawks then ran off six-straight goals to close the quarter.

A score from Jathan Mahaffey from Michael McQuarrie just 16 seconds into the second gave the Wolverines some life but four unanswered goals by SMC gave the Seahawks a 12-2 lead at the half.

Sam Seibert tallied an unassisted goal in the third while John Chenault and Kyle Funk scored in the final period, but the deficit was too much to recover from.

In his final collegiate game, McQuarrie was the only Wolverine to have a multi-point day with two assists.  He also won 17-of-23 faceoffs and tallied a game-high ten ground balls.  Funk and Eric Bohns led Wesley with a pair of caused turnovers apiece.

Matt Ryan made eight saves in just less than 33 minutes of playing time while Sam Kennedy played the final 27-plus minutes and made four stops.

Patrick Mull (1g, 5a) and Matt Tarrant (5g) paced St. Mary's offensively, while Scott Marsh and Zack Blewett combined to make 20 saves.
