Dover, Del. – Jack Redefer fired a game-winning goal with seven seconds left to play to give the Wesley College men's lacrosse team a thrilling 10-9 win over Richard Stockton Saturday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium.
With the win, Wesley improves to 2-0 while the Ospreys fall to 2-2.
The Wolverine offense started slow, falling behind 3-0 at the end of the first quarter. At the beginning of the second frame, Redefer connected for a score on an assist from Sam Seibert. Patrick Lipari added an unassisted tally with 10:17 remaining to make it a 3-2 Osprey advantage. After a Stockton goal, Seibert and Mike Rakos each found the net before Stockton added a late score to take a 5-4 lead going into halftime.
James Moss scored early in the third period off a feed from Redefer. Tied at five, the Ospreys found their momentum connecting on two quick goals. The Wolverines battled back, pushing two goals from Rakos and Seibert across the net to tie the game at seven heading into the fourth period.
Jathan Mahaffey scored the first goal of the fourth to give Wesley an 8-7 lead. After two Richard Stockton goals, the Wolverines found themselves down 9-8 with 1:39 remaining. James Moss found the net on a give-and-go from Seibert with 56 seconds left to play. After Jack O' Neill controlled the next face-off, Wesley moved the ball and found Redefer for the game-winning tally.
O' Neill helped pace the Wesley offense, picking up 14-of-23 face off attempts. Richard Stockton's Tony Pagano and Shane Moyer won five and four face offs, respectively.
Sam Kennedy picked up the win, 2-0, making 12 stops in goal for Wesley. Eric Leonard recorded ten saves.
Wesley returns to the pitch March 11th when they travel to Southern Virginia for a 3:00 p.m. matchup.
