Men’s Lacrosse Falls in CAC Opener

DOVER, Del. – Wesley College's men's lacrosse team fell to Christopher Newport, 16-8, in the Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday afternoon at Scott D. Miller Stadium.  The Wolverines fall to 4-2 overall while the Captains move to 6-1.

Mike Rakos gave Wesley a brief 1-0 lead with a goal with 10:54 left in the first off an assist by Jack Redefer but Christopher Newport tied the score 100 seconds later and added three more before the end of the opening period.

Sam Seibert then opened the second quarter with a pair of goals, one coming off an assist by goalkeeper Sam Kennedy, but once against CNU went on a 4-0 run, going into the half with a 8-3 lead.

Redefer (3g, 1a) added another goal in the third and two more in the fourth, as did Jathan Mahaffey, but Wesley was not able to overcome the deficit.

Kennedy made nine saves in the defeat while Mahaffey and Ryan Ramsey led the Wolverines with seven ground balls.  Eric Bohns caused a team-high three turnovers along with six ground balls.

Aaron Chrzaszcz led all scorers with four goals and an assist for the Captains.

The Wolverines return to action on March 26 when they travel to St. Mary's at 4 pm.
