Wolverines Hold off Methodist for 14-13 Win

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. - The Wesley College Men's Lacrosse team sustained a fourth-quarter rally from Methodist University, coming away with a 14-13 victory over the Monarchs on Saturday afternoon.

Jack Redefer led the way with six points on four goals and two assists. Sam Seibert and Hunter Coho each finished with three goals apiece. Cody Ireland made 14 saves for the Wolverines to earn the win in net. Eric Bohns led the Wesley defense with three caused turnovers.

The Wolverines jumped out to a 2-0 lead on goals from Redefer and Will Fingles in the first eight minutes, but the Monarchs stormed back to tie the game at 3-3 before the end of the first quarter. In the second frame, the Navy and White fell behind as Methodist outscored them 4-2 to take a 7-5 lead into the halftime break. Redefer and Ryan Ramsey tallied second quarter goals for the Wolverines.

In the third quarter, Wesley exploded for eight goals, including three from Seibert to jump out to a 13-10 lead. The team dominated possession, taking it to the Monarchs to regain the lead and take their advantage into the final frame.

In the fourth, Hunter Coho notched the Wolverines only tally, but it stood as the game winner. The midfielder scored with 11:44 remaining, giving the team a 14-10 advantage. Over a span of 1:11, Methodist drew within a goal. The Monarchs scored three goals between the 8:26 mark and the 7:15 mark to make it 14-13. Over the final seven minutes, Wesley hunkered down on defense, and took control of the game to earn the narrow victory.  

Wesley moves to 3-3 on the season and will return to action on Tuesday when they travel to upstate Pennsylvania to take on Misericordia University.
