ST. MARY'S CITY, Md. - The Wesley College Men's Lacrosse team was tied after the first quarter but fell to Capital Athletic Conference opponent St. Mary's College of Maryland by the score of 17-9 on Saturday afternoon in Southern Maryland.
Jack Redefer led the Wolverines with four points, scoring two goals and dishing off a pair of assists while Sam Seibert scored a team-high three goals. Nate Gemmato scooped up a team-high six ground balls while Eric Bohns led the defense with three caused turnovers. Cody Ireland made 11 saves on the day but took the loss in net.
Sam Seibert and Zach Farnell opened the game with back-to-back tallies to give the Wolverines a 2-0 lead in the first few minutes. St. Mary's responded quickly, tying the game at 2-2 with two scores before the 9:00 mark. Jack Redefer found Will Fingles to make it 3-2, but the Seahawks scored in the final seconds of the frame to tie it.
In the first five minutes of the second quarter St. Mary's took a two-goal lead, but Seibert cut the deficit in half with a goal at the 9:27 mark. From that point, the Wolverines' day went sideways as the Seahawks went on a 11-2 run over the next 29:08 stretching into the fourth quarter to take a 16-6 lead. Redefer netted two fourth quarter goals and dished off an assist to Will Fingles in the final frame but it wasn't enough as the Wolverines fell to the 17-9 defeat.
The Wolverines move to 4-7 on the season and will travel to Salisbury for another CAC contest on Wednesday March 30.
