FREDERICKSBURG, Va. - The Wesley College Men's Lacrosse team fell behind early and was unable to mount a comeback as the University of Mary Washington Eagles downed the Wolverines 19-8 in a Capital Athletic Conference matchup on Saturday afternoon.
Jack Redefer netted five goals and Nate Gemmato passed off three assists to lead the Wesley offense. Sam Seibert finished with a goal and an assist while Will Fingles scored twice for the Wolverines. Ryan Ramsey led the way with a pair of caused turnovers while Seibert won over half his faceoffs and scooped up six ground balls. Cody Ireland made 12 saves in goal for the Wolverines and came away with a pair of ground balls.
In the first three minutes of play, Mary Washington scored twice to take an early lead but the Wolverines responded. Fingles and Redefer scored back-to-back goals to tie the game midway through the first quarter. From that point on, Mary Washington finished the first half on an 11-1 run to take a 13-3 lead into the halftime break.
Wesley and Mary Washington played evenly through the third quarter with both teams scoring a pair of goals. Seibert found Redefer for both scores in the third frame as Wesley made it 15-5. In the fourth quarter, Seibert, Fingles, and Redefer each scored once for the Navy and White while Gemmato earned a pair of assists.
Wesley moves to 4-9 on the year and will take on York in another CAC tilt on Wednesday evening in Dover.
