DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College Men's Lacrosse team took a tough loss on Wednesday night, falling at the hands of fourth-ranked York College 19-4 at Drass Field.
Hunter Coho led the way with three goals while Nate Gemmato scored Wesley's fourth tally. Jack Redefer, John Chenault, and Will Fingles each dished off an assist on the evening. Jason Berry picked up a team-best three ground balls while Nolan Vesey tallied a team-high three caused turnovers. Cody Ireland played a very good game in net despite the score. The senior made 20 saves, stopping over 50% of the shots on goal from one of the nation's most explosive offenses.
The Wolverines struggled to possess the ball winning just five faceoffs on the night. The Spartans controlled the pace of play and dominated posession as they jumped out to a 5-0 lead. Hunter Coho got the Wolverines on the board in the final second of the first quarter when he cranked a shot past the Spartan keeper to make it 5-1. The tally stood as the Wolverines only first half goal while York added five to their lead before the break.
In the second half, the Wolverines traded goals with the Spartans for the first nine minutes with Coho and Gemmato each netting a goal. The next 17 minutes went by without a Wesley tally until the team scored again, going back to Coho for his third goal of the game with 4:39 remaining in the game. Wesley held York to just one fourth-quarter goal but the Spartans still claimed the 19-4 victory.
The Wolverines will continue their Capital Athletic Conference grind when they play host to Christopher Newport University on Saturday, April 9.
