DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College men's lacrosse teams dropped a 10-3 decision to the Methodist Monarchs at home on Saturday.

Wesley got on the board first in the third minute of the game when Ben Mitzel forced a Methodist turnover in the Methodist half and William Poppe scooped up the ground ball and passed it ahead to Josh Wassum. Wassum laid it off for Will Fingles who ripped a shot past the Methodist keeper.

Methodist pulled ahead of Wesley behind seven unanswered goals to go into halftime with a 7-1 lead over Wesley.

After a scoreless third quarter, Methodist stretch their lead to 8-1 when Bryce Kephart netted a man-up goal in the 53rd minute.

Forty seconds after Methodist's goal, Mitch Griffith cleared the ball to the Wesley attacking zone and found Joe Fingles for Wesley's second goal of the game.

Methodist pushed their lead to 10-2 with a pair of goals in the 86th minute but Wesley was able to tally the last goal in the game when Josh Wassum recorded a goal with 55 seconds left in regulation off an assist by Griffith.

Joe Fingles, Will Fingles and Josh Wassum all registered a goal for the Wolverines while Mitch Griffith assisted on two Wesley goals.

Ben Mitzel paced the Wesley defense with five caused turnovers. Joshua Short chipped in with four caused turnovers.

Carlin Fernandez won 11 of his 17 faceoff attempts and reeled in a game-high nine ground balls.

James Cella made 12 saves in net for the Wolverines.

The Wolverines will hit the road on Wednesday when they travel to Towson, Md. to take on the Goucher Gophers. Game time is set for 7:30 p.m.
