Trio All-CAC; Clark Coach of the Year
YORK, Pa. - Wesley College men's soccer Head Coach Steve Clark was named the Capital Athletic Conference Coach of the Year and was joined on All-CAC team by Craig Taswell, Omar De Los Santos and Nick Talarico.
Taswell (Lanham, Md./Duvall) was named to the All-CAC first team, while De Los Santos (Prescott Valley, Ariz./Prescott Valley) and Talarico (Little Egg Harbor, N.J./Pinelands) earned places on the second team.
Taswell, a sophomore midfielder, was named the ECAC and CAC Player of the Week after leading Wesley to a pair of shutout conference wins against Marymount and Hood and also added a goal and an assist against the Blazers. He finished the year with one goal and two assists. Taswell was also named to the all-tournament team at the RMC Select Tournament on the season's opening weekend.
De Los Santos, a freshman midfielder, earned both the ECAC and CAC Player of the Week awards this season, as well. He won the awards after scoring the game-winning goal in overtime and earlier assisting on the game-tying goal in the CAC Quarterfinals. De Los Santos finished the season fourth on the team with nine points and three goals, while his three assists rated second on the squad.
Talarico, Wesley's sophomore goalkeeper, shared a CAC Player of the Week Award after leading the Wolverines to the championship at the RMC Select Tournament, where he was named the Most Outstanding Player. He also had a huge game for Wesley in the CAC Semifinals, stopping a career-high 16 shots in the game, then three more in a shootout as the Wolverines advanced past No. 2 York to the CAC Championship. He finished the year second in the CAC in save percentage and saves.
All three made the all-conference team for the first time.
Coach Clark wins his first CAC Coach of the Year Award and second of his career. In 2008, he guided a Wesley squad with no seniors and just three juniors to an NSCAA regional ranking, a 10-match unbeaten streak in the middle of the season, and into the CAC Championship game by beating St. Mary's in overtime and undefeated and untied York (Pa.) in a shootout.
Wesley finished 11-8-3 overall and 5-3-1 in the CAC in 2008.
