DOVER, Del. – In his final home game at Scott D. Miller Stadium, Joshua Chelleh scored two goals, including the game-winner in overtime to help the Wesley College men's soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Cairn University on Monday night. The Wolverines finish the 2012 season with a 5-10-2 record while the Highlanders fall to 6-9-3.
Trailing by a goal after 45 minutes of action, Chelleh tied the game at 47:53, after controlling a pass from fellow senior Dan Featherer. The senior from Columbia, Md. then blasted a shot off the goalkeeper's hands for a score.
Both teams went scoreless for the final 42-plus minutes of the second half to force overtime despite Wesley outshooting Cairn, 11-5 in the period.
Cairn and Wesley both took a pair of shots in overtime, but after Robert Dina played a long ball down the right end line; Chelleh controlled it and fired a shot into the lower right corner of the goal.
Chelleh closes out his standout career with 22 goal and 21 assists for 65 total points. He finishes his career ranked seventh in Wesley history in goals, third in assists and sixth in points.
Senior Brian Zuber got the start between the pipes for the Wolverines and made six saves while allowing just one goal in 61:30 to get the win. Freshman Ryan Sanders spelled him in goal, making a pair of stops in 36 minutes of playing time.
David Shaffer played all 97 minutes and 34 second for the Highlanders, making five saves.
