DOVER, Del. – Two late Virginia Wesleyan goals gave the Marlins a 2-1 victory over the Wesley College men's soccer team on Wednesday night at Scott D. Miller Stadium. The Wolverines now stand at 4-2 while VWC improves to 3-2-1.
Eman Amao gave Wesley a 1-0 lead in the 75th minute as Bryant Rashford played in a cross from the left side which Amao collected and fired into the right corner. A sophomore from Upper Darby, Pa., Amao, who was last week's Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week, now has four goals and two assists for ten points on the year.
Virginia Wesleyan's Isaac Arrington was able to score the tying and game-winning goals in the 84th and 89th minute, respectively. To tie the score, Arrington deflected in a free kick off the boot of Josh Kemp before knocking in a corner by Alex Castelli just less than five minutes later.
Wesley outshot the Marlins by a narrow 17-13 margin while VWC took six corners compared to five for the Wolverines. Ryan Sanders stopped three shots in the loss while Connor Kirkham made three saves as well for Virginia Wesleyan.
The Wolverines return home on Saturday, September 20 when they host Marywood at 5:30 pm.
