Wesley Surges for 4-1 Victory

DOVER, Del. - The Wesley College men's soccer team scored a season-high four goals and dominated in a 4-1 victory over Eastern Mennonite University, earning their third consecutive win.

Zack Baker earned the win in net while Bailey Lyons, Patrick Schlosser, Adrian Brice and Zach Gaudlip each scored their first goals of the season for the Wolverines. For Lyons, Schlosser and Brice, their goals were the first of their careers.

Wesley jumped out to a lead in the 22nd minute. Kyle Jackson lined up for a free kick at midfield. With the entire EMU defense packed into the box, Jackson passed the ball to Lyons who stood alone about 35 yards out. The defender turned a rifled a knuckling shot towards the goal that spun away from the goalkeeper and found the side netting, putting Wesley ahead 1-0.

In the 32nd minute Schlosser scored the first goal of his collegiate career. The former football player gathered a pass from Nektario Athanasiou and slid it to the keeper's right for a goal giving the Wolverines a 2-0 advantage. 

Just before halftime, EMU struck gold to stay in the game. Juan Luna lined up a free kick from 30 yards away, just to the left of the goal. The midfielder teed it up and struck a beautiful shot that cracked the crossbar and bounced down and into the net for a goal with just under a minute to play in the half. At the break Wesley held a 2-1 lead.

In the second half, Adrian Brice cashed in his first collegiate goal. The junior collected a blocked shot at the top of the box and rifled a shot that went off the goalie's hands and in. The 65th minute goal gave the Wolverines a comfortable 3-1 lead.

In the final minute of play, Zach Gaudlip added an insurance goal. The midfielder had his corner deflected back to him. The junior bent a shot in from the left flank and sent it over the keeper into the net. The goal gave the Wolverines a 4-1 lead which held until the end of play.

The Wolverines improve to 4-5-1 on the year with a three-match win streak. The team will return to action on Saturday, Oct. 3 when they travel to Western Maryland to take on Frostburg State University.
