FROSTBURG, Md. - The Wesley College Men's Soccer team was stunned by their conference rival, falling 5-0 to Frostburg State University in their Capital Athletic Conference opener on Saturday in Western Maryland.
The Wolverines managed just one corner kick and five shots, including just one on goal. Kyle Springsteen made three saves in the loss.
Wesley played tough through the first half, keeping the Bobcats off the board until the 37:01 mark when the home team managed to break duck. Wesley's only shot on goal came in the first half when Luis Cruz put a strike on net, but it was saved by the Bobcats' keeper.
The Wolverines kept the margin to 1-0 for the first thirty minutes of the second half, but in the final 16 minutes of play things came undone. Frostburg managed to score four goals in the final 15:48, including a Wesley own goal as the Navy and White fell to the conference competitors.
Wesley moves to 2-4-2 on the season and opens their CAC campaign with an 0-1 record. The Wolverines will take the field again when they play host to Christopher Newport University on October 1.
