GLEN ALLEN, Va. – The Wesley College men's soccer team scored three goals on Saturday against the Virginia Wesleyan Marlins in their final match of the Yellow Jacket Classic but the Marlins took the win in overtime, 4-3.
The Wolverines opened the scoring 1:28 into the game when Chimaobi Ikwuagwu ripped a shot past the Marlin goalkeeper on an assist from Danny Garza. The Marlins responded in the 10th minute when Andrew Duenke scored off an assist from Tyriq Wellman.
The Wolverines retook the lead in the 22nd minute when Jaki Farlow played a ball into the box and David-Darius Robinson scored near post.
The Marlins nodded up the game in the 41st minute off of a goal by Ron Rosales. The Wolverines answered back to take the lead before halftime when Robinson looped in a goal past the keeper on the end of a cross from Farlow.
The Marlins tied up the game in the 85th minute off of a goal from Ikechucku Etonyeaku to send the game into overtime.
The Marlins scored the game-winning goal with 3:50 remaining in the first overtime when Ricky Perrault scored to give the victory to Virginia Wesleyan.
Robinson notched two goals while Farlow dished out two assists. Ikwuagwu tallied a goal while Garza added an assist for the Wolverines.
The Wolverines (0-2) will be back in action on Wed., Sept. 6 when they host the Eastern Mennonite Lions for the Wolverines 2017 home opener. Action from Drass Field at Miller Stadium is scheduled for 7 p.m.
