GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – The Wesley College men's soccer team downed the Gwynedd Mercy Griffins on the road, 4-1 in Atlantic East Conference action on Wednesday.
Wesley got the pressure going from the get-go but finally got a shot to go in the net in the 37th minute when Chimaobi Ikwuagwu sent in a long ball into the box and Kevin Flores-Gomez got his foot on the end of the pass and scored the opening marker of the game.
Danny Garza was able to double Wesley advantage in the 55th minute when he was able to corral a loose ball in the box after a corner kick and scored.
Gwynedd Mercy was able to cut into the Wesley lead when Kevin Bowers scored off an assist from Tyler Bascone in the 78th minute. Ikwuagwu gave Wesley insurance with a pair of goals in the final eight minutes of the game. Nicholas Hood played a through ball to Darius-David Robinson in the 83rd minute. Ikwuagwu one-timed the pass by Robinson into the back of the net. Ikwuagwu put his last goal away in the 89th minute on a breakaway.
The Wesley defense held Gwynedd Mercy to only five shots, two of which were on target. Kyle Springsteen made a save in net to earn his fifth win in net.
Wesley (9-3-1, 1-1-1 Atlantic East) will continue their three-game conference road swing on Saturday when they travel to Scranton, Pa. to take on the Marywood Pacers. The game is set to start at 3:30 p.m.
