Men’s Soccer blanks Marywood for sixth clean sheet of season

SCRANTON, Pa. – The Wesley College men's soccer team cruised to a 2-0 shutout over Marywood in an Atlantic East Conference road match on Saturday.

Wesley didn't waste any time getting on the board. Danny Garza let a shot rip from 14 yards out, past the Marywood keeper for his third goal of the season.

Deekai Gbonimy took advantage of a misplay by a Marywood defender in the 71st minute of the game and scored from 25 yards out to push Wesley's lead to 2-0. It was Gbonimy's fourth goal of the season and first goal since Sept. 11 against New Jersey City.

The Wesley defense stifled the Marywood attack, not allowing the Pacers to register a shot on goal or a corner kick. Kyle Springsteen didn't have to record a save to earn his sixth win and fourth clean sheet of 2018.

Wesley improves to 10-3-1 on the year and 2-1-1 in the Atlantic East. It's the first time Wesley has recorded double-digit wins in a season since the 2009 season.

Wesley will be back in action on Wednesday at 6:30 p.m. when they travel to Immaculata to take on the Mighty Macs in conference play.
