DOVER, Del. – The Wesley College men's soccer team honored their graduating seniors with a 3-0 shutout victory over Valley Forge on a cold, breezy Friday night at Drass Field.
All three seniors picked up a goal on Senior Night. Chimaobi Ikwuagwu got Wesley on the board first in the third minute of the game. Darius-David Robinson got a pass from the midfield and sprinting down the wing. Robinson's cross into the box found Ikwuagwu, who squirted a shot past the goalkeeper to put Wesley ahead in the early moments of the game.
Two minutes later, Robinson played a through ball to Danny Garza, who crossed to the top of the box to Nicholas Hood. Hood one-timed a right-footed shot to the top-left corner of the goal to double Wesley's advantage over Valley Forge.
The Wesley offense couldn't get another goal across until the 55th minute of the game when Danny Garza won a tackle in the Valley Forge 18-yard box, took a touch and ripped a shot over the outstretch arms of the goalkeeper to give Wesley a 3-0 lead.
Wesley controlled much of the game, holding a 27-7 edge in shots and a 6-3 advantage in corner kicks.
Kyle Springsteen, Jason Sommer and Vincent Verdi all split time in net in the win. Sommer stopped all three shots that came his way while Verdi registered his first collegiate save in the waning moments of the game.
Wesley (12-3-1) will wrap up the regular season on Wednesday, Oct. 24 when they host the Marymount Saints. The Atlantic East Conference clash is set for a 7 p.m. start.
