The 2019 Wesley Men's Soccer team is ready to meet the competition head on

Veteran Head Coach Steve Clark will look to his seniors for leadership as the Wolverines continue to build on their NCAA record "one season turnaround" in 2018. The Atlantic East Conference defensive Player of the year, Matt Dina and fellow AEC all conference midfielder Luis Cruz, will use their talent & experience to help the Wolverines compete for the conference title.

Returning Sophomore Jason Sommer will take over in goal from Kyle Springsteen but elsewhere there will be many new faces competing for playing time. The Wolverines who failed to score in just two matches in 2018 now have to cope without AEC player of the year Chimaobi Ikwuagwu as well as fellow goal scorers Danny Garza, Deekai Gbonimy and Nick Hood. Junior Darius-David Robinson will lead the line and provide guidance to a group of talented newcomers as the Wolverines will work to blend some much improved sophomores including Jordan Angel, De Los Rios & George Pulliam, with several exciting freshmen.

While the team hosts a lot of new faces, at least part of the team is very familiar with one another. Two sets of siblings join the Wolverines this year, freshman Victor Flores joins junior Kevin Flores-Gomez, and freshman Kieran Sundermann joins sophomore brother Caden Sundermann. "It may take us a little time with the newcomers to settle, however, we hope the team spirit mixed with the young talent will help us continue to compete well at every match," commented Coach Clark."I think we will see quite a thrilling Atlantic East Conference battle this fall."

The Wolverines were picked to finish fourth in the Atlantic East Conference Preseason Poll with 23 points and one first place vote. Cabrini collected 36 points and six first-place votes en route to being named the favorite to win the conference. Neumann collected the last remaining first-place vote and was slated to finish second with 30 points.

The Wolverines will kick off their season at the Hood Classic in Frederick, Maryland, Friday, August 30th against Wilson College at 1 pm. Wesley plays their first home match Saturday, September 7th hosting Lehman College of NY with a 1 pm kick-off.
