NEWPORT NEWS, Va. – Carlton Sheppard and the 4x100m Relay Team took gold in their respective races in school-record fashion to lead the Wesley College men's track & field team to a fifth place finish in the final day at the 2014 Capital Athletic Conference Championships held at Christopher Newport University on Sunday afternoon.
Starting off the sprinting events on the day, the all-freshman relay squad of Patrick Schlosser, Da'Jahn Lowery, Markael Jenkins and Johnny Crenshaw clocked a time of 41.20, besting the host Captains, who also ran a season-high, by nearly half a second. Wesley's school-record time also sits third in all of NCAA Division III.
Sheppard led the entire race and earned his first-ever CAC title in the 800m with a school and meet-record 1:53.47, holding off Salisbury's Thomas Burke by .21. Sheppard now sits 38th nationally in the event.
Also setting school-records on the day for Wesley was Anthony Brinkley with a third place finish in the 400m hurdles (55.09) and Brinkley and Sheppard were joined by Schlosser and freshman Evan Le'Mon on the silver medal winning 4x400m Relay (3:17.69).
Wesley earned 13 points in the 100m Dash alone as Jenkins (10.83) , Lowery (10.89), Schlosser (11.01) and fellow freshman Noel Spencer (11.16) placed third through sixth in that order. Jenkins also took fourth in the 200m Dash in 22.32 while Crenshaw was sixth in 22.71.
Also earning a point for Wesley on the day was Brandin Somerville in the high jump (5-08.75).
